Frisch, Max

biography

Born in Zurich in 1911, Max Frisch is best known as a German-speaking Swiss writer. After studying literature and journalism, he returned to architecture at the age of 25, primarily for economic reasons, and became an architect in 1941. His best-known architectural work is the Letzigraben swimming pool in Zurich, now a listed building and renamed the “Max Frisch Bad”. The success of his book “Stiller”, published in 1954, enabled him to devote himself entirely to writing. From his time as an architect, Max Frisch retained a keen interest in construction and urban planning, and his writing remains strongly influenced by the political, social, and economic context.
